Coming in for a Landing

Well, I set up my pull list with a local comic shop today. I guess that means I’m officially settling in.

After visiting shops all over the city, the one for me is Rocketship in Brooklyn. Special thanks to Jason Rodriguez for mentioning it to me when we were in Brooklyn for a concert last summer and to David Gallaher (He also hosts the New York Comic Writers’ Workshop) for reminding me of it when we met at SDCC mere days before my move. Rocketship is a very cool little shop that feels like a bookstore and hosts some interesting events. With a great atmosphere, personable staff, mini ziggurat of Grant Morrison books, original Becky Cloonan and Leah Hayes art on the wall and a DMZ signing next week, I was quickly sold. And unlike many NY shops, it manages to fit a lot of product into a small space without being crammed past the point of visual and physical suffocation. You can actually breathe and walk around. So if you find yourself in or near Brooklyn with a hankering for a slice of comic culture, swing by. It takes me about 30 minutes to get there, but is worth the trip.

Hoping to perhaps work there, but no openings currently in sight. I considered my job at Meltdown Comics in LA to be the ideal day job, and would love the opportunity to create a similar-but-new experience along those lines here in NY.

In the meantime, I continue to write.
