I'm trying the same thing, pitching one creator-owned project, developing a proposal asked for specifically by another publisher and trying to get another assignment from a publisher whom I've worked with in the past. It's hard to keep everything organized. I've even resorted to collapsing in front of American Idol -- which in less-tired times I avoid like the plague -- at the end of the work day.
